Sugarhouse is a collaborative studio and events space on Stratford High Street, built and managed by Assemble. The building combines affordable studio space alongside wood and metal workshops and a flexible events and project space. Sugarhouse reflects an aspiration to create a sociable and collaborative work environment, providing a valuable way for creative practitioners to expand their frame of reference, learn new skills and work with others. Spaces are provided for designers and artists who engage in hands-on, practical work. It is not seen as a quiet, desk- based work environment but home to a range of messy, noisy, tactile and experimental processes. The space has been transformed from a derelict sign-makers workshop and yard into a home to 39 artists and designers.
